IN-HOME NEWBORN SESSION IN EAST NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE
Some of my favorite Nashville newborn sessions are with families I'm meeting for the first time. There's something special about being welcomed in just days after a baby arrives — and even more so when that first session turns into many. I've had the opportunity to photograph K and her family several times since.
K was just a few days old when I arrived at their East Nashville home.
FORGET THE REST OF THE HOUSE
Here's what I tell every family before a newborn session: I really only need one room. One room with good light, and I can work around or move anything else. You do not need your house to be perfectly in order. I'm here for the baby who's been in the world for less than two weeks, for the parents who haven't slept, for the dog who keeps sneaking onto the bed. I'm here for all of it.
SETTING YOUR SESSION UP FOR SUCCESS
Baby K slept soundly through most of this session. A lot of the success of a newborn session can be greatly helped by a few things: a baby who's under two weeks old (they sleep harder — though it's not a dealbreaker if you're past that), well-fed by the time I arrive, a warm room, and a snug wrap or cozy outfit. Then good light, and we're in business. If baby isn't ready to be put down, we start with the whole family together first and work our way to individuals once they've settled in.
Baby K is beautiful and so very loved. Her parents are utterly enamored with her — you can see it in every photograph.
