Nashville Corporate Event Photography | Post Captain – Slate Summit at Music City Center
POST CAPTAIN AT THE SLATE SUMMIT — MUSIC CITY CENTER
This is the companion to my post on Post Captain's "Unstuck" client event at Belmont University, which was private, tucked away from the main conference. This post covers Post Captain's presence at the Slate Summit itself — the expo floor, the stage, and a live podcast taping, all at Music City Center.
THE BOOTH — CONVERSATIONS IN THE EXPO HALL
Post Captain had a booth in the expo hall for the full run of the Slate Summit, and that's where a lot of my time went. Booth photography lives or dies on whether you can catch a real exchange — someone genuinely asking a question, a consultant genuinely answering it — instead of a posed handshake. I spent hours at the booth over the course of the conference, watching for the moments where a passerby stopped, leaned in, and started an actual conversation about their Slate setup. The branded backdrop meant I had clean, on-brand images available any time a real conversation started, without having to set anything up. But because Post Captain wanted evergreen images, not just expo recap photos, I shot both with the branding in frame and without it, so they'd have options that read as "consultants at work" for use anywhere, not just as booth-specific marketing. Their giveaway leaned into the Post Captain name too — a Slate cheat-sheet designed as a nautical map, "navigating" the platform the way a captain would chart a course. It made for some of the best interaction shots of the day: people genuinely stopping to study it, trace a route on it, ask a consultant to point something out.
THE SESSIONS — POST CAPTAIN CONSULTANTS ON STAGE
I also covered a handful of the breakout sessions Post Captain's consultants gave during the summit — from the podium, in a fireside chat format, and on the mainstage. Conference room lighting is its own challenge — usually dim, usually mixed color temperature, usually a screen throwing off the only bright light in the room — so the job was finding angles that read a speaker clearly against their slide instead of fighting it.
THE PODCAST — A LIVE RECORDING IN THE HIGH-TRAFFIC CORRIDOR
Post Captain also recorded a podcast episode live at the summit, set up in one of the corridors where attendees were steadily passing between the expo hall and the breakout sessions. It's a different rhythm than a booth or a breakout — mics on the table, hosts talking to each other rather than to a camera, foot traffic moving past on both sides — and the challenge is staying out of the recording's way while still getting close enough for a real shot of the conversation. Between the booth, the sessions, and the podcast, the goal stayed consistent with "Unstuck": images Post Captain could use well past this one Slate Summit, not just as a recap of a single event.
