Nashville Bar Mitzvah Photography | W Nashville Sports-Themed Mitzvah
Nashville bar mitzvah photography at W Nashville with a temple service at Congregation Ohabai Sholom and a sports-themed reception featuring LED screens, custom branding, and interactive activations.
This Nashville bar mitzvah began with a service at Congregation Ohabai Sholom: The Temple and continued with a sports-themed reception at W Nashville. From the start, he stood out—he’s just genuinely happy, and he was a joy to photograph.
The service marked a transition into religious maturity, centered on family and tradition. I loved the symbolism of passing the Torah, with each generation taking part and connecting family, tradition, and faith. He led worship, read from the Torah, and gave his speech, all while smiling at friends and family in the room. The smiles, along with the love and respect from the people around him, were some of my favorite moments to photograph. A candy toss at the end got a little more spirited than most of the adults would have liked.
At W Nashville, the focus shifted to a sports-themed reception with a clean, cohesive design. The room was styled in white, blue, black, and silver, with custom-painted sports balls and consistent branding throughout. The guest of honor’s name was integrated across the space—from bar wraps to the staircase that encouraged guests to bring their A game.
A large LED screen with light-up steps anchored the room, displaying custom logos and graphics that carried throughout the event. From a photography perspective, these elements added strong visual variety, from wide room shots to candid moments on the dance floor.
Interactive stations kept the energy moving. A slides bar let guests customize their own footwear with themed jibbitz, while a game room with basketball, foosball, and blackjack gave guests space beyond the dance floor. The escort card display and cocktail hour setup carried the same sports theme, keeping the look consistent across the event.
The reception picked up quickly with a high-energy grand entrance, followed by a packed dance floor and a strong hora that brought family and friends into the center of the room. These are the moments that define mitzvah photography—guests engaged, constant movement, and real reactions.
Between the bigger moments were the ones that grounded the night—laughter with friends, parents watching the montage, and family spending time together on the dance floor. This Nashville bar mitzvah balanced tradition, design, and energy in a way that felt natural to photograph from start to finish.
As a mom myself, I love mitzvahs for the chance to photograph the close bond within each family. I enjoy getting to know each child’s personality and their siblings, and seeing the community that rallies around them. It’s always fun to see my families again at each other’s parties. This family was wonderful to work with, and I truly enjoyed being part of this day.

Sneak Peek Hamilton Bar Mitzvah - Lawson
A Hamilton bar mitzvah at The Temple and The Omni in Nashville Tennessee photographed by Erin Lee Allender.
Young, scrappy, and HUNGRY was the theme of Lawson's extremely cool bar mitzvah. I got to know Lawson when I photographed his portraits and he is honestly one of the coolest and greatest kids, sorry young man, that I have ever worked with. I really enjoyed getting to know him, his brother, and his parents!
Lawson's bar mitzvah ceremony took place this past weekend at The Temple Congregation Ohabai Sholom and was followed by a luncheon at The Temple. That same evening a party was held at The Omni in downtown Nashville to celebrate Lawson's coming of age. The event was planned and designed by Sara Fried of Fete Nashville.
Wait until you see the images of the party. Lawson had a Hamilton (loosely) themed party. There was an adult side of the room with a three course meal and an adult cocktail bar. Then there was the way cooler children's side of the room with a burger bar and a mocktail bar. The kids side also had a living room sort of feel with light up tables, a photo booth, a slow motion booth, and at the end of the night a custom nitro ice cream bar. Both sides of the room were connected by a dance floor where Music City Mitzvah had games and entertainment galore for the kids along with music for the adults.
I hope you enjoy these images as much as I enjoyed photographing them. Special thanks to everyone that put this on.

A Bar Mitzvah boy's portraits in his neighborhood, home and backyard photographed by Erin Lee Allender of Nashville, Tennessee.
I absolutely loved working with this Bar Mitzvah Boy! Getting a 12 year old boy to feel comfortable in front of the camera is definitely a challenge, but as soon as you get a genuine smile out of them, it is one of the most rewarding sessions ever. Once L. felt comfortable enough to be goofy around me, we had a blast. He is one smart, funny kid. Check out some of the images from his session! Bonus for me, we got to do photos with his dog!
Netflix Nachos and Naps - Bat Mitzvah Portraits
A Bat Mitzvah portrait session photographed by Erin Lee Allender of Nashville, Tennessee.
Netflix, Nachos, and Naps is pretty much my mantra. Add in pizza and now we're talking. So this sweet Bat Mitzvah girl had my heart from her first quirky t-shirt. We spent time photographing at some of her favorite places- her house, her ballet studio, her favorite junk food spot, etc. Enjoy!
