Nashville In-Home Maternity Photography | Lifestyle Session with Poodles
This Nashville in-home maternity session was photographed entirely in Mary and Thomas’ house, using natural window light and the spaces they use every day. They chose comfortable clothing and stayed in their socks, keeping the session simple and practical.
Photographing at home added a personal element — this is where Mary and Thomas will spend their days with their baby once they arrive. The session captures the spaces and routines that will become part of their daily life, documenting their actual environment rather than a staged setting.
We photographed in the living room, bedroom, and kitchen, focusing on natural interactions rather than posed setups. The kitchen featured Mary’s impressive collection of plants, which added texture and life to the frames. Neutral tones and soft textures photographed cleanly against hardwood floors and light walls. Their poodles followed along throughout the session and were included in several frames — sitting nearby on the sofa, walking through the hallway, and resting at their feet.
Being in their own space also made it easy to adjust locations as the light changed. I could quickly move Mary and Thomas to the best window light in each room without interrupting the session.
In-home maternity sessions remove travel, weather, and location logistics from the equation, allowing for a straightforward, flexible approach. The result is a set of photographs that document this stage of life in a real, usable context — their home, their routines, and the people (and pets) they’ll share it with.
