THREE BOYS, ONE VERY DETERMINED SET OF BIG BROTHERS

I've now photographed all three of this family's newborn sessions, which is the kind of milestone that sneaks up on you. When I photographed his oldest brother's newborn session, he was an only child. He now has two little brothers, and this time around it was Baby C's turn in front of the camera — in the same East Nashville home where I've watched this family grow session by session.

THE BIG BROTHERS HAD OTHER PLANS FOR THE SPOTLIGHT.

Big brothers are rarely interested in being upstaged, and these two were no exception outside of Baby C's orbit — plenty of jokes, faces, and full-body antics when the camera turned to just the two of them. But the second Baby C was in the room, that energy dropped. They went quiet, moved slower, and waited their turn to hold him without being asked. We worked through the full range: the big brothers on their own showing off their personalities, both of them in close with Baby C, and then the whole family together. The two big brothers set the pace for the whole session — plenty of energy and short attention spans, which comes with the territory at their age. I've done this long enough, and I'm raising a boy of my own, so I know how to work with that instead of against it. I love the mischief. We also got the three of them in matching soccer jerseys, a nod to the World Cup. Getting to return to a family for a third newborn session is not something I take lightly. I've watched these boys grow up in real time, one sibling at a time, and Baby C's session felt like the natural next chapter rather than a first meeting. I am so grateful to the families that keep asking me to come back. It is such an honor to watch their children grow up and meet their new family members. It is always so amazing to walk into someone's house and see my work on their walls.
